Ashen Descent: First-Person Horror Climbing Game (For Sale)

Descend a 1,000-metre shaft with nothing but a grappling hook while a giant centipede hunts you down the same path you took. Ashen Descent is a full horror game, from the surface camp to the ending, with a gritty retro PSX look.

Gameplay

• Physics grappling hook: fire into stone, reel in and let out, swing, and leap off the rope
• The Crawler: a giant centipede that wakes as you descend and follows your exact route. Stop moving and it catches you
• Lit braziers are checkpoints and safe zones. Fall too far and you get hurt or die
• 9 areas: the Ash Flats, the Throat, the Hall of Idols, the Bridges, the Kneeling Ones, the Mire of Lights, the Furnace, the Narrows and the Last Hearth
• 8 expedition notes to find that tell the story of a lost expedition
• A full ending with end-of-run stats (time, deaths)
• Nightmare mode unlocks after you finish: the hunter wakes sooner and moves faster, and dying sends you back to the surface
• Works in multiplayer servers: players see each other's ropes, and each player is hunted separately

Look and sound

• Retro PSX style with 27 custom dithered textures, a screen dither effect and a vignette
• Every area has its own lighting, fog colour, ambience and echo
• 29 custom 3D models made in Blender: hook launcher, centipede, giant kneeling statues, braziers, cages, gears, a bell, the Last Hearth and more
• 50 sound effects and ambient tracks from the Roblox Creator Store (wind, drones, skittering, screeches, heartbeat, fire, music)

UI

• Title screen, HUD (health, depth meter, rope meter), note reader, death screen and ending screen
• Mobile touch buttons and controller support

Code

• Clean, modular Luau: one server script and one client script, with a module for each system
• The server checks checkpoints, damage, notes and the ending, with rate limiting
• Progress is saved with DataStores, with retries if a save fails
• All tuning lives in one Config module: hook range, rope speeds, centipede speed per area, lighting per area
